PNE Forum

Completed: January 2018

System: Distech Controls

About: The PNE Forum has been around since 1936 when it was the main hockey rink in town. In the 1980s the area was converted into a concert venue, where acts like Pink Floyd, Bing Crosby  and Nirvana played. In fact our very own Norm Smith (now retired) saw Pink Floyd at the PNE  forum in 1972 in surround sound!

Challenges: The PNE Forum building is 82 years old, 22,657 square feet with a 40 foot ceiling. For this reason, wiring was almost impossible hence the need for wireless controls. Wireless relays,  wireless communications, and wireless interfaces saved the client immeasurable time and material  costs.

Successes: This project although small, was our very first project with Distech Controls, our newest  product line. We created the custom user interface and created the lighting options for the facility.  The staff working at the forum are now able to run their lighting from a tablet with several preset lighting options.  This will make the concert lighting far simpler with their old system and they now have the capability of operating it from their home if they need to. Their old system, for those wondering, was probably the same system you have in your kitchen, good ole’ light switches on a wall.
